What are you willing to do to educate all children?

There needs to be an equal ground amongst all students. I don't believe there isn't a length I would go to in order to educate all children. There needs to be communication in every aspect of a school setting in order to make this work. That means that not only does there need to be clear communication between the teacher and students, but other teachers as well. Having other teachers form a strong communication can help with ideas that can further help when trying to educate all students. Of course, the most important part of communication is between the teacher and student. This means that there needs to be an understanding on how that specific student works and communicates with society. That may mean that a student would rather communicate through art or sign language if they are not able to communicate with just their words.

There has to be an understanding of how a student may choose to communicate in order for the teacher to adjust their lessons accordingly. It is necessary for teachers to allow students to share their diversity in order to allow a student's full identity to be placed on the table. What that means is that student's may shy away from learning if they do not relate to the text or understand it. This may mean that the teacher needs to adjust the text (or class as a whole) in order to help a student fully grasp the material in a way they understand. Every single person learns in a different way. It is important to recognize how each individual student grasps concepts and material. In order to create an inclusive classroom, one must make sure that their teaching is fully adjusted to how each student may learn. It is definitely easier said than done, but the most important aspect of this is that every student feels heard and understood.

  1. Hi Payton! Simple and straight to the point in the opening of your blog post; love that. I agree with you in that equality needs to be at an even ground for all of our students. It is important to establish that equal ground in order to establish your planning for the year! I also love how you focused on communication, because communication is of utmost important in any human relationships. In schools, children are so vulnerable as they are afraid of speaking up or being different; because of this, schools need to incorporate the importance of communication into their classrooms. If we can establish relationships and communication with each one of our students, undoubtedly, it will ensure their success. As Chris Emdin stated in his Ted Talk, "culturally responsive instruction is more relational than technical." You made that very clear in your plan of action that in order for students to respond best to learning, you need to incorporate and communicate with them what they need from you, as the teacher. You are right by the way, it is definitely easier said than done, but I am confident that you are going to be able to execute this perfectly as a future educator! :) Great post!

    1. Hi Hannah! Thank you for the simple and straight to the point comment- it's what I try to go for when learning and teaching!! You are very right about children being vulnerable. Schools should be a secure environment where students are able to express themselves and learn fully.
