Why Teach?

    Hello everyone! My name is Payton Jones and I am planning on being an elementary school teacher. I gained my love for learning from a very young age. It then made me realize that I wanted to not only learn to my greatest ability but also to teach children to be able to do the same. I remember one of the very first shows I watched as a child being Magic School Bus. Ms. Frizzle inspired me to become the same eccentric teacher that everyone knows and loves even today! Another inspiration for teaching was gained through my mother. She taught almost every grade and seeing her make connections was wonderful. My mom had this ability to spark a passion for learning in anyone she met. I give her a lot of credit for pushing me in my education and encouraging every aspect of learning.

    I am not really sure if I have any set goals for teaching at this time. I just want to be able to get in the classroom and spark the fondness for learning that I have in my future students. I am very passionate about art and earth science so I may want to specialize in those topics as time continues but for now I just want to get started! If I were to teach any grade specifically I would probably lean towards kindergarten. The reason I would go for kindergarten is because another thing I loved about school was reading. I remember just being in absolute awe when learning how to read and I want to be able to share that experience with the children I teach. However, I am just very grateful to be given the opportunity to continue to learn and grow with this community. I have that same feeling towards teaching and would quite frankly be happy in any classroom setting. Any opportunity for learning is wonderful!

    Hi Payton! I love that your reason for gravitating towards the Kindergarten age was your joy of reading. I too fondly remember sitting in a circle in the classroom for storytime. I especially loved when parents got to come in and read. My mom came to my class for storytime a few times and they're some of my favorite memories with her.

      Hi Sarah! I always loved when parents came into classrooms. It was an amazing experience when you could almost "show off" your parents to the other kids.

    Hi Payton! I thought it was really interesting that you have such good memories of kindergarten that it inspired you to become a teacher. I find it fascinating how at such a young age we can be inspired by learning and how it can impact our future career goals. As kids we get bored very easily of some activities. For me it was reading. But you have found the act of reading captivating. Your future students will be lucky to have you. My favorite book my mom used to read to me was Goodnight Moon. Did you have a favorite book when learning to read?

      Hi Mashal! I think the reason that I have such an early memory is because I was so competitive when it came to reading. I would have to say my favorite book when learning to read would have to have been the Bob Books series!

What are you willing to do to educate all children?

       There needs to be an equal ground amongst all students. I don't believe there isn't a length I would go to in order to educate all children. There needs to be communication in every aspect of a school setting in order to make this work. That means that not only does there need to be clear communication between the teacher and students, but other teachers as well. Having other teachers form a strong communication can help with ideas that can further help when trying to educate all students. Of course, the most important part of communication is between the teacher and student. This means that there needs to be an understanding on how that specific student works and communicates with society.
